About

After successful careers as gymnasts themselves, Norm and Anne Vexler started Hampshire  Gymnastics School in the fall of 1974. With over 37 years of experience, the Vexlers have established a gymnastics program for children of all ages and abilities that emphasizes developing gross motor skills, balance, coordination, and self confidence. Over the years, many former students have returned to bring their own children to classes and several former students have also joined the staff. Norm and Anne continually strive to provide area children with a quality gymnastics program.

Building their own facility in 1978 allowed for more equipment and training space. An exciting new teaching aid called the PIT was added in 1988. The pit is 18 by 20 ft and is 6 ft deep. It is filled with over 10,000 foam cubes which stop the gymnast in the safest possible way. This has proved to be an incredible teaching aid for the most advanced level gymnasts as well as a wonderful place in which to jump and play for our youngest students.

Anne and Norm's daughter, Talya Vexler Nesbitt, joined the staff at Hampshire Gymnastics in 2010 and teaches classes and coaches the team along with Elizabeth. In addition to her career as a national elite level competitor and a member of the USA team to the Maccabiah Games, Talya was a three time All-American gymnast at the University of Georgia and a member of the 1999 NCAA National Championship Team. For the past 4 years, she was the assistant coach at the University of Iowa, where she was voted the NCAA Regional assistant coach of the year in 2008. Talya has also been a featured clinician at many national events. Talya is continuing the Vexler tradition of coaching and teaching young children.
